Holiday Season Underway!
November 14th, 2009 by James L. Sweaney, CGA, FGA. GGThe Annual Christmas on Main Street party took place last night, and a good time was had by all! Main Street merchants stayed open up and down the Mall til 9 pm, serving refreshments and previewing new goods for the upcoming holiday. Two shops, Mrs. Tigglywinkles and Delight & Invites provided nightlong entertainment with live music by the country band Old Brown Shoe. The evening was enhanced by holiday lights, good wine and food, music, and lots of happy folks– and a touch of winter cool!
Alice Bell and wife Kaye created an absolutely captivating holiday display for our front window. The stage is set as the curtains open on the story of the Nutcracker, complete with jeweled ballerinas floating thru the air, amidst the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The ballerina pendants were designed for the New York Ballet by Eichorn, a Californian jewelry designer who specializes in fine colored stone jewelry. Sorry, I wasn’t able to get a good photo in the hubbub of the day, so look for it to follow soon.
At Mardon, we were busy all evening, showing and telling, and just all around socializing.
Dear friends, Pam and Dan Leimel generously helped out — Pam was gorgeous, modeling a super Chimento necklace with matching earrings, and Dan was our gregarious bartender (and wine taster!)
Our Fabulous Fakes were a big hit– we recently aquired a large group of excellent quality jewelry from an estate, with some great “Fakes”, mostly silver, and some karat gold, that were set with nice big sparkling cubic zirconia stones– we priced these very aggressively to sell quickly, much to the delight of our customers. Look like a million for as little as $25!
Our new pieces from William Henry fascinated all, especially the new fountain pens and the money clips. William Henry gifts for men have become all the rage– they were featured on the cover of the Robb Report gift guide– a publication whose subscribers supposedly have an average net worth of 6.5 million! No one comes close to the great designs, exquisite metal work and scrupulous craftsmanship of the William Henry studio– at surprisingly affordable prices!
The most excitement of the evening centered around the drawing for a free Technicolor Raincross Pendant. This new piece is being produced in collaboration with one of the finest enamelers in the United States, Falcher Fusager of the firm of Magick, another fine California family jeweler. All of our other Raincross items are produced here in Riverside, but we don’t have the facility to do fine enameling like Mr. Fusager and his family.
We’re very excited about the new piece and judging from the response at the unveiling of the design, it should be very popular. We expect the first group of pendants in about ten days! The silver version will be priced less than $200. We’ll do gold ones later on.
Last but not least, we’d like to thank all of you who voted in the Press Enterprise Reader’s, especially those who voted for us. We are the Best Jewelry Store in Riverside!
